Our Founder

Healing Haiti's Founder Alyn Shannon went to Heaven on November 10, 2010, after a 2 1/2 year long battle with breast cancer. Her bravery, her unfailing faith and her sense of humor in the face of such an ordeal comforted and inspired those who knew and loved her. Alyn was passionate and full of life. Whatever she did, she did with her whole being. Alyn was compassionate and full of love - for God, for her family and friends, for her art and especially for the children of Haiti.

Alyn and her husband, Jeff spoke of their first, life-altering mission trip to Haiti in 2006 saying that it 'broke their hearts wide open.' Together, they heard and answered a calling from God to a higher purpose. They filled their broken-open hearts with love and with service in God's name on behalf of the poorest of the poor in Haiti, with the founding of the non-profit charitable organization "Healing Haiti." Making a difference in the lives of the poor and most vulnerable in the western hemisphere's poorest country became their mission.

She created jewelry with purpose.

Alyn also channelled her strong faith, her immense talent and her desire to make a difference into the creation of an artisan jewelry company with a purpose. Alyn's Gs2studios jewelry was made by hand and with all her heart, and she worked tirelessly to share her love of God and her eye for beauty in every piece. All profits from her heartfelt work went to benefit the many initiatives of Healing Haiti.

Why?

Alyn Shannon, founder of Healing Haiti, was diagnosed with terminal cancer and had just returned from the earthquake-ravaged Haiti when she wrote in her journal, 'What's God trying to teach me?' Have you ever asked 'why?'  We don't always understand the 'why' part, but maybe that is not what God wants us to ask. Maybe God wants us to ask 'what'... What is God trying to teach us? A few months before she went to Heaven, Alyn shared her journal with all of us...
